What exactly is Loved One Check In?
Loved One Check In is a simple wellness service that sends a friendly text message to your loved one on a schedule you choose. When they reply, you know they are okay. If they do not reply within the time you set, you are alerted right away so you can follow up. No cameras, no wearables, no apps — just a text.
How does a check-in actually work?
You pick the days and times. At each scheduled time, your loved one receives a short text asking how they are doing, and they reply with a simple word like "YES". That response is recorded on your caregiver dashboard. If no reply arrives within your chosen window, we notify you so nothing slips through the cracks.
Is it hard to set up?
Not at all. Most families set up their first check-in in under five minutes. You add your loved one’s name and mobile number, choose a schedule, and you are done. There is nothing for your loved one to install or learn.
Can I check in on more than one loved one?
Yes. A single Loved One Check In account can care for multiple loved ones — parents, a grandparent, an adult child, or a friend. Each loved one has their own check-in schedule, and every check-in and response is collected on one caregiver dashboard, so you can keep an eye on everyone from a single place.
Can I choose how often check-ins are sent?
Yes. Once a day, twice a day, weekday mornings only — whatever fits your loved one’s routine. You are in full control of the days and times, and you can change the schedule any time from your account.
Can it also send medication reminders?
Yes. In addition to wellness check-ins, Loved One Check In can send friendly SMS medication reminders to help your loved one stay on track with their medications throughout the day.
Do you offer medication refill reminders?
Yes. In addition to medication reminders that help your loved one take their medications on time, Loved One Check In can send medication refill reminders — a timely heads-up when a prescription is running low, so it can be reordered before it runs out and there is no gap in their medication.
What types of check-ins can I send?
Loved One Check In is more than a single “are you okay?” text. Alongside the standard wellness check-in, you can schedule mood check-ins (your loved one rates how they are feeling), pain check-ins (they rate their pain level), meal reminders (a friendly nudge to eat), medication reminders, and medication refill reminders (a heads-up when a prescription is running low). Each type can be scheduled on its own days and times, and every response is recorded on your caregiver dashboard.
What is a wellness check-in?
A wellness check-in is the classic “are you okay?” text. Your loved one receives a short message on your schedule and replies with a simple word like “YES”. If they do not reply within the window you set, you are alerted right away.
What is a mood check-in?
A mood check-in asks your loved one how they are feeling and lets them reply with a simple rating. It is a gentle way to keep an eye on emotional well-being over time, and you can choose to be alerted when their mood dips to a level you find concerning.
What is a pain check-in?
A pain check-in asks your loved one to rate their pain on a simple scale. It helps you track how they are feeling day to day, and you can set a threshold so you are notified when their pain reaches a level worth following up on.
What is a meal reminder?
A meal reminder is a friendly text nudging your loved one to have a meal, helping them stay nourished throughout the day. Like every check-in, it is sent on the schedule you choose.
What is a medication refill reminder?
A medication refill reminder is a timely heads-up when a prescription is running low, so it can be reordered before it runs out. It is a simple way to help your loved one avoid gaps in their medication, sent on the schedule you choose.
Does my loved one need a smartphone or an app?
No. Loved One Check In works on any phone that can send and receive text messages — including basic flip phones. There is no app to download, no account to create, and no password to remember. If they can text, they can use it.
Can it work for a loved one who only has a landline?
Not yet. Loved One Check In currently works through text messages, so it needs a phone that can receive SMS, such as a cell phone or smartphone — landlines cannot receive texts. The good news: we are actively working on voice check-ins, which will place a phone call instead of sending a text, so a loved one with only a landline can be checked on too. Voice check-in support is on the way.
Will this feel intrusive to my loved one?
We designed it to feel like a caring note, not surveillance. There are no cameras and nothing to wear. It is simply a friendly text on a schedule — a respectful way to stay connected that keeps your loved one’s independence and privacy intact.
What does my loved one actually have to do?
Just reply to a text, the same way they would reply to a family member. The check-in message asks how they are doing, and they send back a simple response. That is the entire experience for them.
What if my loved one travels or their routine changes?
You can adjust or pause the schedule at any time from your account, so check-ins always match what is actually going on in their life.
What happens if my loved one doesn't respond?
If a reply is not received within the timeframe you set, you are notified right away. That early heads-up is the heart of the service — it lets you reach out and act quickly when it matters most.
Who receives the alerts?
You do, as the caregiver. You can also add other family members or caregivers so more than one person is kept in the loop and no alert is ever missed.
Can I add more than one caregiver?
Yes. Caregiving is often shared, so you can add multiple caregivers to a loved one. Everyone you add can stay informed and receive alerts.
Do I get summaries or reports?
Yes. On select plans you receive simple daily or weekly email summaries of check-ins and responses. You also get a caregiver dashboard that shows every check-in, reminder, and response in one place.
Is Loved One Check In a replacement for a medical alert system?
No. Loved One Check In is a wellness check-in service, not a medical alert or emergency-response device. It does not have a panic button, fall detection, or a 24/7 monitoring center, and it cannot summon paramedics. If your loved one needs the ability to call for help instantly in an emergency, please use a dedicated medical alert system alongside Loved One Check In, not in place of it.
Is this a replacement for 911 or emergency services?
No. Loved One Check In does not contact 911 or emergency services, and it is not a substitute for them. If a missed-check-in alert tells you something may be wrong, it is meant to prompt you to reach out and follow up. In any medical emergency or life-threatening situation, always call 911 (or your local emergency number) right away.
How much does it cost?
Plans start at $5.99 per month. You can begin with a 7-day free trial, and there are no contracts or long-term commitments — you can cancel any time.
Can I add features à la carte, beyond the subscription plans?
Yes. Our subscription plans cover what most families need, but if you need a little more, Loved One Check In offers à la carte add-ons so you can tailor the service to your situation without moving up to a larger plan. You can add and manage these options any time from the Billing section of your account.
Is there a free trial?
Yes — every account starts with a 7-day free trial, so you can set everything up and see how it works for your family before you are charged.
Can I cancel any time?
Absolutely. There are no contracts and no hoops to jump through. You can cancel from your account in just a couple of clicks, whenever you want.
Is billing secure?
Yes. Payments are processed by Stripe — the same platform trusted by Amazon, Google, and millions of businesses. We never see or store your card details.
How does referring a friend work?
Every account has its own personal sign-up link. Share it however you like — text, email, or social — or let us email it for you using the "Invite a Friend" form on your Refer a Friend page. When a friend signs up through your link and becomes a paying subscriber, they are credited to you automatically. There are no promo codes to remember.
When do I get my referral credit, and how much is it?
Once a friend you referred has been a paying subscriber for a month, a referral credit is added to your account. Credits start at $10, and the exact amount depends on the plan your friend subscribed to — friends on larger plans earn you a larger credit. The credit is applied automatically to your next invoice; there is nothing extra you need to do.
How many friends can I refer?
As many as you like. There is no cap — each friend who signs up through your link and stays a paying subscriber for a month earns you another credit, and your credits add up on your account.
Where do I find my referral link?
Sign in and open the Refer a Friend page from your account. There you can copy your personal sign-up link, send invitations by email, and track your referrals and credit balance in one place.
Is my loved one's information private?
Yes. We do not sell your data or share your loved one’s information — ever. Privacy and respect are built into the service from the ground up.
Do you use cameras or tracking devices?
No. There are no cameras, no wearables, and no location tracking. Loved One Check In is intentionally simple: just a text message and a reply.
Who is behind Loved One Check In?
Loved One Check In is a small, family-owned business. We built it for our own parents and loved ones, and we run it the way we would want something built if our own family depended on it — because it does.
